Strategic Green Management Training

Strategic Green Management Training

Learning by doing

Markets are taking environmental issues into account and are demanding EMAS and ISO14001
Soon even the smallest companies will have to show customers, public administrations, non
governmental organisations, insurance companies, neighbours and professional associations, that they have implemented environmental management.

Tools exist but they are often over-complicated
The range of tools to help SMEs is constantly growing but a lot of these tools are considered to be too heavy and complicated by smaller companies and micro-enterprises. They are seen to represent a growing threat of bureaucratisation. To conform with or touse environmental management standards which are becoming prevalent through out Europe at the moment, such as ISO 14001, or the EMAS regulation scares small companies.

Visual, simple and practical tools are needed!

Action Decision,Learning and Simulation

The basis of the Action Learning is that participants are actively working with real problems and issues, and create their own knowledge rather than passively served knowledge. The method assumes that people learn best by documents and by reflecting on theresults of their actions. The reflections leading to conclusions and to new issues that drive the development and further learning.
Action Learning was created by Reginald W Revans. Professor Revans was English Olympians in the Olympic Games in 1928 and did research in the 1930s in nuclear physics at Cambridge. The method is based on several assumptions:
- We get only what we want to learn.
- We want more love to teach us when we face problems we want to solve.
- Learning is a social process and we learn better if we are a few pieces in the same situation

Simulation Of real situations is our tool By

Benefits of good practice

Hotel SolutionsPosted by Nils Mon, February 29, 2016 10:17:22
Benefits of Responsible Environmental and Social Practices for Hotels

Good practice can result in direct cost savings by reducing energy and water bills, sewage treatment and waste disposal costs. In many areas of the world, demand for water exceeds the supply and is seriously straining available water resources. Some of the most water-stressed areas in the world, such as the Mediterranean, are also home to some of the largest international tourism destinations.

The demand for water per guest (Up to 600- 800l/day/guest ) usually exceeds by far the demand of a local residents. In addition to the water required for each hotel room and general hotel management activities such as kitchens and laundry, features such as swimming pools, lawns and golf courses can add significantly to total usage. Excessive water use can degrade or destroy local water resources, threatening the availability of water for local needs. Problems may be made worse in areas where high tourist season corresponds with periods of low rainfall.

With the help of our container-based, scalable water treatment equipment with membrane technology you can reduce consumption and reuse your water. Big profit and quick return.

With the help of our container-based small Biogas plants do you take care of all your organic waste fractions on site and create electricity, heat and gas to your stoves. The surplus will be valuable biofertilizer that you can use in your gardens or sell / give away to your vegetable producers. Big profit and quick return.

We have also developed some products that will help you to reduce electricity costs by facing the volume of lamps you use to LED lighting. You buy directly from the factory and it will be delivered directly to your hotel. Big profit and quick return

Small quiet wind-driven generator which both deliver electricity, light to your garden. Requires no installation, each unit operates its lighting. Turnkey delivery from the factory.

By choosing us as your supplier, you have gained a comprehensive solution that covers most of your major energy thieves; the rest is improved work processes to reduce losses in all activities and where we can also help to drive your quality work with ISO 1401 for the hotel. Big profit and quick return.

EU Biogas3 Project

Biogas solutionsPosted by Nils Mon, February 29, 2016 09:49:16
BIOGAS3 will promote the sustainable production of renewable energy from the biogas obtained of agricultural residues and food and beverage industry waste (agro-food waste) in small-scale concepts for energy self-sufficiency. This action will contribute to secure, sustainable and competitively priced energy for Europe by promoting new and renewable energy sources and supporting energy diversification.

Anaerobic digestion (AD) for biogas production is a proven technology that is well known in the municipal waste and wastewater treatment plants. It is commercially ready to use and has multiple benefits (energy savings, waste management cost savings, reduction of environmental impact, reduction of carbon footprint, etc.). The same technology can be applied to other organic waste such as agro-food waste. The motivation behind BIOGAS3 is based on the observation that, despite its multiple benefits, AD is not yet widely implemented in the agro-food sector, or its implementation varies extremely between the EU-27 member states. The small-scale AD concept (<100 kW), applied soundly in the appropriate locations, is a sustainable solution from the economic (energy savings due to self-consumption, waste management savings), energy (self-consumption and reduced losses due to near use) and environmental (reduced or zero transport costs for raw materials and digestate, CO2 emission abatement) point of view.

The project strategy is designed for the target group, the agro-food sector, which is at the same time the energy producer and the demand-side with the proposed scheme:

  • First, the needs of end-users in terms of energy demand will be analyzed, as well as the difficulties they encounter when considering to install a biogas production facility.
  • Second, the necessary tools to address these needs will be developed according to the gathered information, including business collaboration models, small-scale process design and promotion, energy demand management models, and training to build-up of skills, awareness and networking.
  • Third, on-field actions will be implemented to promote this small-scale concept and to bring the developed tools to the end-users, including training sessions (face-to-face and on-line), workshops, webinars, website, etc. A specific programme of face-to-face activities with the most promising implementation sites will be carried out.
BIOGAS3 will produce a significant impact in terms of renewable energies uptake. It will act as catalyst and replication of success, triggering decisions to invest in renewable energy production from agro-food industry waste. Total transferability is guaranteed between participant countries that cover the most relevant regions of Europe in terms of agro-food waste generation. The high relevance of the participants and their dissemination capacity will assure the high visibility of the actions, making intelligent energy technologies as widely available as possible. A train-the-trainer approach ensures impacts beyond the actual project duration.

Municipal Solid Waste Management in Developing Countries

About this Course

Have you come across large piles of garbage in neighborhoods and streets, or smelly waste disposal sites polluting the environment of low and middle income countries? Are you also convinced that improvements are necessary and do you want to know what kind of sustainable solutions are appropriate to better manage waste and enhance recycling and recovery? If yes, this course is for you!

This course provides an overview of the municipal solid waste management situation in developing countries covering key elements of the waste management system, with its technical, environmental, social, financial and institutional aspects. Besides understanding the challenges you will learn about appropriate and already applied solutions through selected case studies. The course also covers strategic planning and policy issues discussing future visions for waste management and the aspect of a circular and green economy. Considering the importance of the organic waste fraction, the course covers several organic waste treatment technology options such as composting, anaerobic digestion, and some other innovative approaches.

This course offers free Statements of Accomplishment (SoA) issued by Eawag. You can earn a SoA by successfully completing the quizzes and the final exam.
Please be aware that this SoA is not a paid Course Certificate issued by Coursera & EPFL. MOOC SERIES “SANITATION, WATER AND SOLID WASTE FOR DEVELOPMENT”
